DAY 7: Flight A: Blake Lemish and Michelle Love; Test 5 “Eucalyptus”

"Eucalyptus" is a water triple with a blind using all dead drake Mallards. The scenario is a small duck hunting pond with several channels. The order is left to right. Bird number one is thrown to the left at 85 yards. Slightly to the right of this bird at 65 yards, bird number two is also thrown to the left. The handler and dog turn to the right for bird number three. It is thrown to the left, landing 101 yards from the line. To reach bird number three, the dogs must cross two pieces of water. The 116 yard blind is run to the left of bird number one to the end of the pond, exits the water and finds the blind on the left side of a mound.

Arriving at "Eucalyptus" today, we found Flight A already running the test – 90 contestants had been called back to this test. It was 54 degrees, partly cloudy with a very light breeze that was not a factor in the test. The first three dogs that we watched had very nice work. This included Beckylou's Bayou Beamer MNH8 MH. "Beamer" is 11 years old with eight Master National passes. We had the pleasure of watching this big boy complete another test on his way to becoming MNH9. The wind began to shift and problems started with the contestants. Of the next five dogs that ran, four had to be handled. Three of the handles were on the left-hand mark and one was on the middle mark.
